Our Square Foot Garden in the making

My husband gave me the most wonderful present for Christmas! He is building me four 4×5 planter boxes to house our new family vegetable garden. This is a huge leap of faith because I’m not the best at watering our houseplants. However, I have promised that our veggie garden will be my number one priority.

I’m so excited, I can hardly wait to get the seeds and plants in the ground. Luckily we live in Phoenix and our planting season runs from January to March.  To start out we want to do a mix of seeds and plants. We really want our daughter to experience the joy of watching seeds sprout.

Here’s our garden plan right now.

Lil Miss’ Garden

  • Sunflowers
  • Watermelon {Desert King or Sugar Baby}
  • Strawberries
  • Cherry Tomatoes
  • Cucumbers {Spacemaster}

Daddy’s Salsa Garden

  • Tomatoes
  • Tomatillos
  • Jalapeno
  • Cilantro
  • Garlic
  • Red On ion

Mama’s Gardens

  • Green Peas {Little Marvel}
  • Green Beans
  • Lettuce Mix
  • Spinach
  • Carrots {Tonda di Parigi}
  • Bell Peppers
  • Summer Squash
  • Zucchini
  • Green Onion {White Lisbon}
  • Basil
  • Thyme
  • Oregano
  • Chives

    Oooo, I need to create a salsa garden! I don’t have much of a green thumb, but I’d love to grow fresh herbs and maybe onions :) Time to do some research (our planting season should be close to yours since we are in SoCal)

    Love it! You’ll have so much fun!

    My husband built me a container garden last year and we had a great time harvesting our garden. So much so that he’s building an extension for this summer.
    I’m super jealous because I live in Ottawa, Canada and I can’t plant my seeds until May!

    Enjoy this with your family!
